1.5 Year Old Goldbar Male Chinchilla -- MNWI J64 -- mild special needs / prolapsed penis -- retired breeder
We have a goldbar male chinchilla that is looking for his new home. This boy was originally one of our breeders… and we wondered why he wasn’t breeding… turns out he has a mildly prolapsed penis. Well, that explains it! He can live a perfectly normal life like this… just he won’t be having babies anytime soon. He needs someone who can keep an eye on this… more below. He was born 7/18/18, which makes him going on 2 years old.
His color is called goldbar. A goldbar is also known as a Lowe’s recessive white, and it is a whiteish color chinchilla with a goldish tinge to it. Kinda neat, definitely not a color everyone can say that they have!
This male is an active boy that loves to check out new things! He is very outgoing, always at the front of the cage wanting to see what you are doing! He would probably really enjoy playtime. He can be held and petted and he does pretty well with being held and petted. He’s a super sweet boy and doesn’t bite.
As far as his penile prolapse… all this means is that instead of it typically being tucked in its sheath… often it’s hanging out. This doesn’t bother him, and he goes about his normal life. He does, on occasion, get hair rings, since it is just hanging there at times, and is more exposed to his fur than penises on most male chinchillas. Because of this, he needs to go home with someone who is comfortable with checking for hair rings periodically, and removing when necessary. A couple times a month would be great (we’re doing about once a week). He doesn’t get them horribly, but often he’s got some tufts of fur that he needs help removing, and that’s what his new home will get to help him with! You do not have to be an expert on how to do this – we are more than happy to show you – but you will need to keep up with it.
This chinchilla would make a great “first chinchilla” for someone who’s never had chinchillas before, provided they are able to do the hair ring checks and remove hair rings.
The adoption fee for this goldbar male is $200
